The Venus Bay Angling Club is a friendly, local fishing club which started back in 1979. The club welcomes new members – whether you want to fish or just be a social member. We support the local community with special events and hold monthly fishing competitions and social events for members.

Venus Bay offers great surf fishing along it's five publicly accessable beaches as well as fishing off the bank or by boat in Andersons Inlet and the Tarwin River. During winter large salmon school along the surf and in the Inlet. Trevally are also plentiful in the Inlet in winter. Spring and summer see the Inlet come alive with pinky snapper, trevally, whiting, good sized flathead, and many other species in good numbers. The Tarwin River is renowned for the great estuary perch caught along it’s banks, and you can usually get a good feed of mullet or trevally as well.

When does the club meet?
The club is open every Friday afternoon from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. View the Events page to see all other club meetings, competitions and events.
Do I have to live locally to join the club?
No, the club is open to anybody who wishes to join. Many of our members holiday in the area and only occasionally participate in competitions.

When is high tide in Andersons Inlet?
High tide in the inlet at the Venus Bay Boat Ramp is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes later than the Venus Bay ocean high tide. The current water level at the boat ramp can be seen to the left of this page with more detailed information available here.
When can I launch/retrieve my boat from the Venus Bay boat ramp?
This depends heavily on your equipment and boat but a good rule of thumb is to launch/retrieve your boat within 2 hours either side of high tide in the inlet. The current water level at the boat ramp can be seen to the left of this page with more detailed information available here.

The VBAC was started by locals back in 1979 and has a wonderful history involving the Venus Bay community. Now, in 2026 the club is still going strong and welcomes new members – whether you want to fish or just be a social
member. We aim to provide information on fishing in the area and in recent times have held Women's Fishing Days, Open Days at Gerald's Shed and most recently the Kid's Fishing Day, which was a huge success. We support our local
community by running the Easter Egg Hunt every year and sponsor gifts for the children when Santa comes to town.
We hold monthly competitions with a BBQ supplied by the club on the Saturday night of competition weekends. Trophies and prizes are awarded to members and visitors for each competition for both Seniors and Juniors. Members are
also eligible for annual trophies for Heaviest Fish, Highest Aggregate and Runner Up Aggregate, in both Junior and Senior divisions. Best Gummy Shark and Best Elephant Fish also receive an annual trophy. You can view the honour

We run other social events through the year such as movie nights, dinner at the Cavity or the Riverview Hotel and
special fishing days as well as a Christmas Dinner in December and our social members help make these events very successful.
We are happy to provide help if you're unsure about tides or any aspect of boating in the area or if you need any tuition on how to 'start fishing'!
